Digital Spirit Levels for Shed Bases: What Are You Checking?

A shed base can be level and still be out of square. That distinction matters before choosing the measuring tool.

Use the level for level

A spirit or digital level checks the component it is sitting on. A longer level can span more of the base; a shorter one can be easier to position around individual bearers or blocks.

Use diagonals for square

A digital display does not tell you whether a rectangular base is square. Check the geometry separately using appropriate dimensions and diagonals.

GL60 or GL120?

The GL60 is compact at 600mm. The GL120 provides a 1200mm reference where the base gives you room to use it. Neither is automatically “better”; the useful length depends on what you can physically bridge.

Would a laser be easier?

For transferring the same height between several supports, a laser can reduce repeated repositioning. On a larger outdoor base, a rotary and receiver may be more useful than a visible line laser.

The bottom line

Check level, square and height as separate questions. A digital level is good at the first; don't ask it to answer all three.
