Grettz G80 vs Bosch GRL 650 CHVG: Two Green Rotaries, Different Price Classes

The Grettz G80 and Bosch Professional GRL 650 CHVG are both green rotary lasers aimed at serious outdoor work. But the Bosch is a premium connected 18V system, so this should not be framed as a like-for-like fight on price alone.

Published range and accuracy

The G80 has a stated working range up to 600m and horizontal accuracy of ±1.5mm at 30m.

Bosch specifies a 650m diameter working range with receiver for the GRL 650 CHVG, with horizontal accuracy of ±1.5mm at 30m and vertical accuracy of ±3mm at 30m.

Those headline horizontal accuracy figures are therefore comparable, while Bosch publishes a slightly longer receiver range.

Protection

Grettz specifies IP66 for the G80. Bosch specifies IP68 for the GRL 650 CHVG and says the unit is designed to withstand a 2m tripod tip-over. On published ingress and impact credentials, Bosch has the stronger claim.

Power and runtime

The G80 kit uses two lithium-ion batteries. Bosch's system can use an 18V Professional battery or D-cell batteries and specifies up to 60 hours / 50 hours depending on power source.

Connectivity

Bosch includes Bluetooth connectivity and its Levelling Remote App. If remote digital control and integration into Bosch Professional's system matter to you, that is a clear Bosch advantage.

Receiver and site workflow

Both are intended to be used as receiver-based site systems. The G80 includes a digital receiver with millimetre readout in the Grettz kit. Bosch pairs the GRL 650 CHVG with its LR 65 G receiver in the current UK kit.

Which would we choose?

Priority Better fit
IP68 / published 2m tripod tip-over resistance Bosch
18V Bosch battery ecosystem Bosch
Bluetooth / app control Bosch
Grettz digital receiver with mm readout Grettz G80
600m-class green rotary without buying into Bosch's premium ecosystem Grettz G80

The bottom line

Bosch has a formidable specification and should be treated that way. G80's proposition is not that Bosch somehow got rotary lasers wrong; it is to provide the core capabilities many site users actually want — green beam, 600m-class receiver range, ±1.5mm at 30m horizontal accuracy, dual grade and digital millimetre receiver — in the Grettz system.
