Grettz G60 vs DeWalt DCE079: Which Rotary Laser Suits the Job?
Oct 07, 2026
The Grettz G60 and DeWalt DCE079 are both rotary lasers, but they are not trying to be the same product.
The G60 is the straightforward Grettz option for general receiver-based site levelling. The DeWalt DCE079 is a higher-spec green 18V XR rotary with additional functions and tougher published protection.
Range and accuracy
The G60 has a stated working range up to 400m with its receiver and stated accuracy of ±3mm at 30m.
DeWalt specifies 60m working range without detector and 600m with detector for the DCE079, with ±1.5mm accuracy at 30m.
On those published figures, DeWalt has the advantage in both receiver range and stated accuracy.
Red versus green
The G60 uses a red rotary beam; the DCE079 uses green. Green can appear easier for the human eye to see, but for long-distance outdoor levelling both systems are fundamentally receiver-led. Beam colour should not be the only reason to choose a site rotary.
Slope and advanced functions
DeWalt specifies a single-slope mode up to ±10°, horizontal and vertical self-levelling, scan modes and plumb points. If those functions are central to your work, the DCE079 is the more capable machine than the G60.
Within the Grettz range, grade and more advanced rotary requirements are where the G70 and G80 belong rather than asking the G60 to be something it isn't.
Battery platform
The DeWalt runs on the 18V XR battery system. For an existing DeWalt user that is a real workflow advantage. The G60 is positioned as a self-contained laser kit rather than another tool tied to a wider power-tool battery ecosystem.
What comes with the kit?
DeWalt's UK DCE079 kit specification includes the rotary, battery, TSTAK box, remote, tripod, detector, bracket, charger, target and glasses. G60 is also sold as a practical site kit with receiver, tripod and staff. Always compare the actual kit variant being offered rather than the bare laser headline.
Which would we choose?
| Priority | Better fit |
|---|---|
| General site levelling without paying for advanced functions | Grettz G60 |
| Published ±1.5mm at 30m accuracy | DeWalt DCE079 |
| 600m detector range | DeWalt DCE079 |
| Already invested in DeWalt 18V XR | DeWalt DCE079 |
| Need a straightforward Grettz rotary kit | Grettz G60 |
| Need more advanced Grettz grade capability | Look at G70/G80 instead |
The bottom line
If you need the DCE079's extra accuracy, range, XR battery compatibility and advanced functions, DeWalt is the stronger specification. If your work is straightforward site levelling and those extras would sit unused, the G60 is designed as the simpler Grettz route into a receiver-based rotary kit.
