Choosing a Rotary Laser for Large Sites: Range Is Only One Number

A 600m range looks decisive on a specification sheet. On a real site, range is only useful if the laser also gives you the accuracy, functions, receiver performance and durability the job needs.

Start with the site, not the model

Consider the maximum working radius, required tolerance, whether you need grade, whether vertical operation matters and how exposed the equipment will be.

G60

For general site levelling, the G60 provides a stated working range up to 400m with its receiver. If that covers the work and you don't need more advanced functions, there is little value in buying specification for its own sake.

G70

The G70 adds dual-grade capability and horizontal/vertical operation, making it more suitable where the laser is being used for more than a simple level datum.

G80

The G80 offers up to 600m working range with its receiver, stated accuracy of ±1.5mm at 30m, dual grade and IP66 protection. That combination is aimed at more demanding site use.

Range versus accuracy

Do not assume the laser with the longest range is automatically the right choice. Compare stated accuracy at the distance relevant to your work and understand how error can matter over the full site.

The bottom line

Large sites reward the right specification, not necessarily the largest specification. Buy the range and functions you can explain a use for.
